Language 

The official language is Dutch, but the Dutch are also generally very good at English and German.

Visa requirements

Some participants may need to procure a visa to travel to the Netherlands. Please check the requirements here.

We can provide an invitation letter for visa purposes after registration and payment have been completed. If you need a letter to attend ADDA 5, please write to adda5@tilburguniversity.edu. If you need a letter to attend CBC25, please write to cbc2025@tilburguniversity.edu.

Please note: Participants bear the responsibility of procuring a visa in time. We are unfortunately unable to help expedite visa processing times which differ per Consulate.

Currency and payment 

The currency is Euro. It is possible to pay by credit card in most places, but not always for small amounts. It is therefore a good idea to have cash on you for small purchases etc. Payment cards such as Visa, Mastercard and Eurocard can be used at most ATMs.

Tipping 

Tipping is included in the price and is not expected, but appreciated in bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues. If you do want to tip, you can round up or add 5-10% if you are particularly satisfied with the food and service. 

Weather 

The Netherlands has moderate marine climate with mild winters and cool summers. In May, the average daily maximum is 17 °C and the average daily minimum is 7 °C. 

Electricity 

The Netherlands uses the so-called Europlug. This is the plug with two round pins used in most other European countries. There are 230 volts in the sockets. 

Water 

Tap water is safe to drink. 

Units of measurement 

The metric system: metres, kilometres, grams, kilograms. Temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
